As I sat down to mix and master DAJAI's "YouTube" track, I immediately noticed the delivery and flow of his voice. His cadence was spot on, and he really nailed the lyrics. The production elements in the vocal were well executed - the doubles were tight and the ad-libs added a nice touch.
For the vocal stack, we used a combination of the Neumann U87 and the AKG C414 microphones. We ran these through our trusty API 512 preamps, and then into a Neve 1073 EQ to add some warmth and punch. For the chorus, we doubled the vocal stack and added a little bit of reverb to give it that big room feel.
Overall, DAJAI's approach to recording this track was technically sound. He really understood how to use his voice to convey the message of the lyrics. The use of the API 512 preamps and Neve 1073 EQ gave us a great foundation for the vocal stack, and the Neumann U87 and AKG C414 microphones captured DAJAI's vocal performance perfectly.
